Darien Lake Theme Park Resort is adjacent to Six Flags Darien Lake Amusement Park in western New York state.
Darien Lake Theme Park Resort is a “lodging only” type of campground as the main attraction is the amusement park.
Site Review:
There are more than 600 wooded, shady, grassy, or sunny campsites in the park. The sites vary from premium full hook-up sites to tent sites.
We had site #668 which was a full-service value campsite.
When you are making reservations, you reserve the type of site that you want, not the actual site. The site is assigned to you when you check-in. I do not know if you can make requests. We had never been here before so I had no preference.
The campground is fairly large. Some campsites would be a considerable distance away from the entrance points into the theme park. Darien_Lake_Camp_map_
There are parking lots located near the park gates if you prefer to drive from your campsite to a park entrance. I was surprised at how many vehicles were in these parking lots.
You could also rent a golf cart for use during your stay.
Lots of people choose this option. You must be over the age of 18, have a valid driver’s licence as well as proof of insurance.
You can rent the golf carts at the general store located within the campground in Darien Square.
Campground amenities include:
- Comfort stations with flush toilets and showers
- Laundry facilities
- Camping lounge/ Arcade
- Pub/ restaurant
- General Store
- Gift shops
Activities:
It’s all about the theme park here. There are no activities specifically designed for the visitor staying at the campground.
Swimming:
There is no pool or swimming accommodations at the campground. There is a waterpark area within the theme park that has numerous slides, a lazy river as well as a wave pool.
Biking:
You can bike on the campground roads. There are no designated paths for cycling or hiking.
Canoeing/Kayaking:
You can not use your own personal canoes/kayaks/SUP boards etc. on Darien Lake. You can rent kayaks and pedal boats from within the theme park. The rental area is located near the big Ferris wheel.
Things to Know:
- Pets are allowed in the campground but they are your responsibility. There are no kennel facilities.
- Every night at 10:10 (weather permitting) “Ignite the Night” fireworks display is held near the lake.
- Campfires are permitted. Some sites have a campfire ring, some do not (we brought our own fire dish).
- Your campground fees include park admission for the day of your arrival as well as for the day of your departure.
- Ice, beer, beverages, wood, basic groceries, as well as some camping items can be purchased at the General Store.
- Darien Lake campground does have a party atmosphere to it. A lot of guests also use the camping accommodations to attend concerts that are held at the Darien Lake Amphitheater. This usually means a bunch of rowdy concert-goers reconvening in the campground after 11 and continuing to party and be loud at their sites. Security is a presence to keep this under control.
IMO:
The overall experience at Darien Lake Theme Park and Resort was at best average. It is convenient but you are paying for that convenience. Nothing is cheap. The theme park itself is ok. There are some mid-calibre rides and theme park show options. Not enough to keep me amused for days, however. The campground is nothing special. I am reluctant to recommend Darien Lake Theme Park and Resort as an RV Place to Go. I personally will not go back. The experience didn’t justify the expense.
