I’m Brenda and my husband is John. We live in Barrie, Ontario Canada. I’ve been camping my whole life, ever since I was a little kid.
We now have a 30ft 2011 Class C Chateau Motorhome that we purchased in 2013.
We were excited to discover all sorts of new places and do things that we probably never would have done- or even had known to do. We get 4 weeks of vacation a year. We wanted to make the most of that time.
Planning
I planned our trips. I became pretty fluent at navigating the internet. I scoured review sites exhaustively. I would read virtually every post about a place I was interested in. I endured endless post about:
- whether bathrooms were clean/dirty or modern/outdated.
- how it rained on their camping weekend.
- mosquitoes they encountered while camping (?!).
- where the Park staff were less than perfect.
- posts about WiFi/cable/ cell phone connection or lack thereof.
I have read the words “great” “terrible” “nice” “good” and “bad” so often without being in any constructive context, that I don’t even know what these words really mean anymore.
What I want to know:
What I didn’t really read that much of, were posts that were loaded with all the practical, useful information I needed to plan my trip.
- I don’t care about bathrooms that much. I have one in my RV. I find information about bathrooms to be relevant only if there isn’t one, I guess.
- For everyone who has had a wash out for a camping trip because it rained, you have my sympathy, we have all been there. What I want to know about is that when it rains, was there something new you hadn’t planned on doing that you discovered to do? Did you find a new attraction in the area to explore?
- I don’t care about mosquitoes. I expect that when I’m camping there will be bugs. I have 100% deet insect repellent and this works like a charm. Unless the bug situation is way beyond the parameters of normal, I don’t understand why this gets mentioned as frequently as it does.
- Park Staff are there to do a job. I have found the staff that I have encountered to be competent and adequate at their jobs. In the event that there is a situation and an individual’s interaction with a staff member is unpleasant, I generally see that as situation specific, and never really see how that translates into something I can learn from.
- I also really don’t care about electronic device connection compatibility. I know this is controversial to say, because A LOT of people do care about it. I guess I just look at it from the perspective that I didn’t go to all the trouble to go camping and “get away from it all” only to worry about whether I can bring “it all” with me.
Mission:
So having gotten to the point of frustration many times while researching for a trip, I have finally decided to write my own reviews based on information acquired first hand after visiting specific places. I write with the travelling RV camper in mind, as well as those who want to get the most out of each camping experience. My hope is that the information that I have put together is useful to you as you plan your trips and maybe even discover a few more:
