Four Mile Creek State Park

Four Mile Creek State Park

Four Mile Creek State Park is located in Youngstown, New York about 15 miles from Niagara Falls.

We camped here for the weekend so that we could do some cross-border shopping, as well as a little sightseeing from the American side of the Falls.

Site Review:

We stayed on site #50.

Four Mile Creek State Park

The park has 275 campsites (138 are electric) situated within 3 site loops.

  •  The main area (sites 1-154) is basically a large grassy field with a nice smattering of mature trees for shade. The sites here are nicely spaced apart, and while there is no visual privacy, you are a comfortable distance from your neighbour.
  • The 200s loop has only electric sites. About a dozen of the sites here are considered premier waterfront sites. You would pay an additional $6USD per night for one of these sites. You would be afforded a nice view of Lake Ontario but you would have no access. I think that the best site is site #240.Four Mile Creek State Park
  • The 300s loop has only unserviced sites.

Campground amenities at Four Mile Creek:

  •  2 dump stations.
  •  2 different playground areas.Four Mile Creek State Park
  • Camp storeFour Mile Creek State Park
  •  Laundry facilities
  • Standard comfort stations with hot showers

Activities:

There isn’t much in the way of activities at the campground itself. There is a hiking trail along the east side of Four Mile Creek, but that’s about it.

The location and its proximity to the activities in the area are probably the main reason many people choose Four Mile Creek State Park.

Niagara Falls State Park:

Niagara Falls State Park is about 20 miles away. It was established in 1885 and it is from here that you can access the following:

  • Maid of the MistFour Mile Creek State Park
  • Cave of the Winds
  • Niagara Gorge Discovery Centre
  • Aquarium of Niagara
  • Niagara Legends of Adventure Theatre
  • Observation TowerFour Mile Creek State Park
  • Niagara Falls Scenic TrolleyFour Mile Creek State Park
  • Top of the Falls Restaurant

Niagara Falls State Park is open 365 days a year and it is always free to walk into the park and see the Falls.

For a more in-depth Falls experience, you might want to purchase a Niagara Falls USA Discovery Pass. This allows you admission to 5 different attractions as well as unlimited rides on the scenic trolley.

The cost is approximately $45USD for adults and $34 USD for children. The passes do not need to be used on the day purchased.

There is RV parking in Parking Lot #3Four Mile Creek State Park

Things to Know:

  1. Pets are allowed but you must have proof of rabies inoculation- you WILL be asked at check-in.
  2. All of the sites are back-in only.
  3. Despite the park being located on the shore of Lake Ontario there are no facilities that permit swimming.
  4. There is also NO boat launch
  5. Campfires are permitted and wood can be purchased at the camp store

IMO:

Four Mile Creek State Park is a neat, well-maintained park. The sites are generous in size. They are grass-covered and level.

Overall I liked the park. The plan was simply to stay a couple of nights and explore the surrounding area attractions and it was perfect for that. If you are looking for more in the way of campground amenities or things to do at the campground itself, such as swimming or any water-based activities, you would probably be better off looking elsewhere.

The park is close to area attractions and it is clean. Even though many of the sites don’t offer much in the way of visual privacy I didn’t find that my camping experience was spoiled by the proximity of my neighbours. I would stay at Four Mile Creek State Park again if exploring the area further.RVplacestogo.com
